Watson, Sonics defeat Grizzlies 108-101

Earl Watson scored a season-high 26 points and Wally Szczerbiak had 24, including the go-ahead score with 31 seconds remaining, to rally the Seattle SuperSonics to a 108-101 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night.

The Sonics, who were without flu-ridden rookie star Kevin Durant, roared back from a 19-point deficit early in the second half to win for the first time in four games against Memphis this season.

Rudy Gay scored 23 points and Hakim Warrick had 22 for the Grizzlies, who lost their 10th consecutive road game and are 1-6 since trading star Pau Gasol to the Los Angeles Lakers on Feb. 1.

Gay was just 9-for-23 from the field and shot airballs on two long jump shots in the final minute, leaving him wincing and tapping the top of his head in frustration.

As some of you already know, I am an Ohio State Buckeye fan who resides in the Heart of Texas among some of the most die hard and passionate fans in this country...Texas Longhorn fans! The College football fan base in general is the most interesting group of sports fans to observe. In my opinion they are more colorful and crazed than any Professional Football, Baseball, Basketball, or Hockey fan base and the Texas Longhorn fan is indeed an interesting breed. The University of Texas is located in the great city of Austin. One of the coolest cities in the United States. Known for it's hospitable atmosphere and great night life. It has been called the "Live Music Capitol of the World" and I've have found that to be true. But on Saturdays in the fall it's all about the Longhorns. These fans truly bleed burnt orange.

High Fuel Prices Bringing More People to Food Pantry

Higher fuel costs have affected some Ashley County residents in ways other than requiring them to pay more at the pump and to pay higher utility bills. Hamburg Helping Hands Food Pantry Director Mary Williams explained recently that while fuel costs have increased, working extra hours to make ends meet is not an option for a percentage of elderly residents collecting social security. During January, according to Williams, the pantry aided 114 families.

"The biggest group served are senior citizens, 70 to 80-years-old. They're the ones struggling most," Williams said, adding that 70 percent of those assisted through the pantry are senior citizens.

"Try living on $600 a month to pay utilities and see how far that takes you," she said. Seniors also face medical issues combined with the increased living expenses.

Valentine's Day 'petaways'

Valentine's Day is coming up, but it's not too late plan that romantic getaway you've been dreaming about—and there's no reason why Fido and Fluffy can't come along too.

John Clifford of International Travel Management in San Diego, Calif., suggests checking out pet packages offered by some of the country's leading pet-friendly hotel chains if you don't have time to research a romantic hideaway in close proximity to where you live.

“Chains such as Kimpton Hotels or W Hotels", specialize in a boutique hotel concept designed to pamper and cater to your every whim, and are renowned for their pet-friendly attitude. Often their pet packages are surprisingly affordable," says Clifford.

Some Beach, Somewhere

Petersburg Times/Miami Herald/Bay News 9, has a margin of error for Republicans of 5.1 percent. Both John McCain at 25 percent and Mitt Romney at 23 are within the margin of error. Giuliani's not. He's tied with Mike Huckabee at 15 — and Huckabee, running out of money, has essentially conceded Florida, showing up primarily for airport news conferences.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton leads Barack Obama 42-23, with John Edwards at the drop-out level, 12 percent. Edwards registers a distant third in South Carolina, too. Obama's up there by about 15 percentage points. That race should be over early Saturday and with a third-place finish, it's hard to see Edwards going on. No great loss, though. Of the three, he's the Democrat I'd least like to see in the White House.
