Half an hour late, Lisa M. Black, director of New York City Public Affairs and legislative media director for the much-storied Senator Joseph (Joe) Bruno (R-NY,) comes in like a whirlwind. Alert, attractive all-American face, hair pulled back tightly in a ponytail to counteract the swampy 100 percent humidity of a wilty Noo Yawk summer day, a mischievous smile topped a fairly low-cut sleeveless white piqu baby doll-style top.

She's like Ari Gold in Entourage, completely on top of it all. Snap: Facts, figures, pending legislation, back-room semi-deals and important state and city pol names rat-a-tatting out of her, shooting fast, smart, knowledgeable answers to every question.

New cruise ship plans to sail between Duluth and Toronto

DULUTH, Minn. - The Duluth Seaway Port Authority is working to ensure clear sailing through new immigration rules for a planned cruise ship providing regular service between Duluth and Toronto.

Travel Dynamics International has announced that it has bought a 50-suite cruise ship that it plans to sail out of Duluth during the summer and fall of 2009.

Adolph Ojard is executive director of the Duluth Seaway Port Authority. He says his agency will need to work with Homeland Security officials on the security logistics.

Ojard says he wants to avoid repeating the problems the cruise ship Columbus encountered in September.

After a Great Lakes tour that was supposed to end in Chicago, it learned there were no marine terminals on the Great Lakes certified to accept foreign travelers.

De La Hoya makes his retirement plan

Starting this week at the Honda Classic, the tour will return to a traditional 36-hole cut for the top 70 and ties. If more than 78 players make the cut, there will be another cut to the top 70 and ties after the third round.

Winter sports: Americans leading

• Americans Emily Samuelson and Evan Bates won the compulsory-dance segment at the junior world figure skating championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. They finished with 35.11 points, edging Russia's Maria Monko and Ilia Tkachenko (34.99) by 0.12 points.

• Finnish ski jumper Harri Olli was banned for the rest of the season for breaching team rules and unsportsmanlike conduct at the ski flying world championships. The Finnish Skiing Association banned Olli after he reportedly disappeared late Friday and turned up Saturday three hours before the second day of jumping at the worlds in Germany.
